Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) was founded in 2008 after vet nurse and local shelter volunteer Marisa Debattista witnessed firsthand how many pets needed help, versus how little resources were available. SCAR rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs and cats that are unclaimed from Council pounds and from private surrenders.
SCAR have set the bar high and have embraced an organisational philosophy that prioritises empathy for pets AND their people. With an evolving operating model the organisation has turned its focus to preventative strategies. Community outreach programs, a community vet clinic, low cost desexing programs and a domestic violence support program are just some of the ways SCAR are doing things differently.
