My mum's 19yo dog Suzie, who lived with me due to mum's dementia, had just passed away and my other rescue dog Buddy had never been alone. Along came a malnourished, neglected fluffball named Millie who had been cleaned up by the rescue group and foster mum. She had real spirit – strode up to Buddy and nuzzled him. She fell asleep in my arms and when they said I could keep her I burst out crying. Suzie's ashes had just arrived so I was already emotional. Millie locked on to me immediately and has been by my side ever since – 4 years now – and her and Buddy remain bosom buddies.
