I volunteered at the RSPCA for over a year without adopting any animals (which is very hard to do!) Everyone adopts the young puppies or the easy dogs but I feel in love with Kobi who was 5 years old at the time.
We brought him home and he paced around in circles in the backyard for hours and at that point we were thinking what have brought home.
Later that night he calmed down a little but was very wary of us and of anyone patting him.
It took months or persistence to show him that we were not going to hurt him and that he could trust us (He had obviously been abused by his previous owners).
He would look right through you as if you didn’t exist. I remember when he first properly looked at us in the eye at that point he let us into his life.
He is becoming an old man now at 10 years old but every day I am so thankful to have him in my life.
He looks big and scary but he really is a big softie, a side of him that he only shows to those he trusts most.
