We adopted Hugi in May 2020 just before he turned 7. As an ex-racer the transition to pet life was hard for him, he was nervous and didn’t know how to play or learn new things. We took it slow and with lots of love and patience he has blossomed into a sassy and very loveable rogue. Sadly in February of this year he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a very nasty and painful bone cancer. Thankfully we were able to help him fight with amputation surgery and chemotherapy. He’s now almost 6 months post-diagnosis and we’re so proud of how well he’s adapted to life as a tripawd. We don’t know what the future holds for our brave boy but for now it’s full of cuddles, sniffari walks, trips to the pub and of course lots of tasty treats!
Hugi has helped remind us to appreciate the little things in life, to take those few extra minutes to appreciate the beauty around us, and most of all to try and keep laughing even during the tough times. We’re blessed to share our lives with such a beautiful dog and will continue advocating to end greyhound racing across Australia and beyond.
