We lost our beautiful Golden Retriever (Buddy) last November, aged 14 and 4 months. We don't have kids and he was my baby from 8 weeks old. I never thought I would get over his loss, as my Dad also passed 5 weeks prior. While both lived long lives; the grief was overwhelming.

We planned to travel and decided to foster beforehand. My husband had been amazing, but I was struggling in my grief. I needed the unconditional love only a dog can give.

We applied to be GAWS foster carers. First was greyhound Tanny, who after a week went to Greyt Greys. Then sweet Jack Russell Heidi for 7 weeks. Then crazy, staffy-mix Pippa who, after only a week in foster, got adopted by the perfect couple for her. And finally, Delilah; surrendered with such a terrible skin condition, we weren’t sure her fur would grow back. After 3 wonderful months with us we'll soon adopt her, and when able, we'll all travel to WA.

I will always need a dog in my life in one form or another. I thought I was doing good by helping rescue dogs, but I realised it was them rescuing me.
