When my border collie Lonnie passed away in 2018 I had no intention of getting another dog. I was concerned that his best friend Molly would not accept a new dog in our home. It was obvious that she was missing Lonnie. Usually a happy, energetic dog, Molly was becoming depressed and listless.
Everything changed when local rescue group PEGGY’S PROMISE listed a border collie named Calais for adoption. There was something very appealing about her. Her eyes revealed intelligence and a good-natured personality, but she was extremely timid. She had been badly abused in her previous life and she was fearful of strangers. We took Calais home for a trial, and after just a few days she was running around with Molly and being spoiled by the rest of the family.
Two years later Calais (now renamed Bonnie) has lost her fearfulness and she wins the hearts of everyone she meets. She and Molly are inseparable and it is a joy to see the two of them running around together.
Words cannot describe the happiness Bonnie has brought into our lives, especially in these days of social distancing. We may have rescued her but she repays us every day.
