Bonnie and Clyde were 2 of dozens of chihuahuas rescued from a terrible puppy farm at the end of 2021. They were terrified of people and had never known a warm home or love. Bonnie’s fur was stained yellow from living in her own filth and Clyde wouldn’t allow me to touch him. They both spent the first few days hiding in their crates until they slowly started to trust me. Since then we have engaged in lots of training and desensitisation to help them adjust to life in suburbia. Their biggest achievements are welcoming strangers into the house with kisses and cuddles and enjoying daily walks (albeit away from other dogs for now). They have enriched my life more than I could imagine and I love showing off their custom sweaters, beanies and bandanas to their Instagram followers. We are still working on their dog reactivity, recall and house training, but they are affectionate and happy little doggos. After applying for literally hundreds of rescue dogs after I suddenly lost my old dog, I didn’t think I was ever going to be a dog Mum again. When Bonnie and Clyde picked me, it was love at first sight.
