Carmel and Andy

Carmel of Victoria shares her story about Andy, a rescue German Shepherd Dog.

Andy came to me at a time when I was in recovery from multiple brain tumors, 3 failed surgeries, radiation therapy and then a fatal cardiac arrest that took 7 paramedics and close to an hour to revive me. I was severely brain damaged, unable to walk more than a few feet holding on to something and in short – a complete mess.

Carmel and Andy

I saw Andy on German Shepherd Rescue Victoria (GSRV) and asked to meet him. The President herself bought him over, a thin, bedraggled mess of a dog. We looked at each other and fell in love. Together, we have recovered. I run with him every day, I drive a car, ride a motorbike and am in love with him and my life.

We saved each other. GSRV helped with that. There are not enough words in this to tell you the impact Andy has had on me and my life.

This story was a Finalist in the 2018 Advocate® People’s Rescue Story award. This special award is for Aussie pet guardians who have adopted or fostered a companion animal (pet).
