Introducing Awards Supporter Getting To Zero (G2Z)

The Jetpets Rescue Awards 2018 is proud to introduce Getting To Zero (G2Z) as one of our Silver Rescue Supporters.  G2Z is a national program developed and delivered by the Animal Welfare League of Queensland.

The aims of G2Z is to increase responsibility for companion animals so that every community and municipality can achieve zero euthanasia of all healthy and treatable cats and dogs.

Hundreds of thousands of healthy and treatable cats and dogs are being abandoned and killed in pounds, shelters and vet clinics each year in Australia.  This is preventable.

G2Z is relevant to state governments, local government animal management departments, pounds, shelters, rescue groups, breed organisations, breeders, pet shops, animal trainers, groomers, wildlife organisations, veterinarians, and all community members who are concerned about better management and welfare of cats and dogs.

The Getting to Zero Model details the principles, structures, and strategies for achieving zero killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs (more than 90% of all incoming stray and surrendered cats and dogs) in whole communities. The model is based on AWLQ’s successful strategies in reducing incoming animals and reducing euthanasia rates in Gold Coast City, Australia, a city with over half a million people. Because AWLQ manages all of Gold Coast City’s stray and abandoned animals, it has been possible to develop a whole community change model, transferable to other cities and towns.
