Tommy and Mary (Western Australia)

Congratulations to Mary and Tommy!

I adopted Tommy about 7 years ago. he is a blind border collie and initially, I was fostering him and tried to give him away (rehome). After about 8 months I realised he was going to stay put. So we did lots of agility together to keep his mind active.

When he got too old for that we started visiting Aged Care homes, as part of Animal Companion Volunteering. And when I was struggling to keep visiting the elderly people, we transitioned to Story Dogs – where we go into schools and help kids with their reading.

Tommy was a bit of a ratbag when I first got him, but he transformed into a loving companion and great dog who loves visiting people and brightening their day.

Mary’s nominated rescue organisation is DFL Pound Rescue.
